Punchneedle rug hooking is a fantastic way to get the projects you want to hook completed in a reasonable amount of time. Working from the back of the rug, you thread rug yarn or wool strips (a bit trickier, but completely learnable) through the hollow handle and tip of the needle and punch it in regular intervals through the foundation. This creates even loops on the front.
After working for years as a professional rug maker, Amy Oxford designed her own needle to give great results while protecting the hands from undue stress and pressure (and then went on to open her own school). We're believers.
The Oxford #9 needle works well with our DKWright wool. You'll also need a pattern, foundation material and a frame.
